Block types

Every piece of content on a slide is a block.

The four types

  • Text — standard body content. The default for every new bullet.
  • Heading — larger, styled text for a title within a slide (distinct from the slide's own title).
  • Image — upload a file or drag one in directly. Uploaded images are compressed to WebP automatically.
  • Note — a private speaker note. Notes are never shown on the slide, in presentation mode, in the public viewer, or in exported PDFs — only in the editor, tagged with the author's avatar.

Creating a block

Type / at the start of an empty block to open the block picker, or click the + button that appears when you hover a block. Keep typing after / to filter the list. Navigate with or Tab, confirm with Enter, and dismiss with Escape. The same menu also has a New slide option.

Changing a block's type

Hover a block and click the small type icon on its left to open a dropdown with the same four options.

Image blocks

Drag an image file onto any block to convert it into an image block, or drop it onto an existing image block to replace its contents. Once a block holds an image, hovering it reveals:

  • Fit — cover, contain, fill, none, or scale-down.
  • Background — makes the image fill the entire slide as a backdrop, with an accompanying opacity slider (0–100%).

Block width

Top-level bullets and columns can be sized relative to their siblings. Hover a block and click its width button (), or press Ctrl+Shift+1 through Ctrl+Shift+4 while focused inside it. See Magic Bullet for how this affects layout.

Block direction and alignment

Any block with sub-points can control how its children are arranged. Open its layout dropdown to set:

  • Direction — Column (stacked) or Row (side by side). For an image block, this controls whether the image sits above or beside its sub-points.
  • Content alignment — horizontal (left/center/right) and vertical (top/middle/bottom).

Deleting and adding

Hover a block for a button to remove it and a + button to add a new block directly below it. On mobile, use the chevrons to indent or unindent in place of Tab/Shift+Tab.
